There’s actually a way to use the mini U-lock such that both the rear wheel and frame are secure: simply enclose the lock around both the ground anchor (ie: a parking meter) and the rear wheel’s rim within the rear triangle of the frame. Google “sheldon lock” for a visual explanation.

I wouldn’t recommend using the Sheldon lock for long periods in Chicago though, especially with that Cannondale. Thieves in Chicago are known to cut through the rear wheels of expensive bikes to remove them and steal them for their components.
