One of the problems with a decorative opening is having windows in or around the door. Anyone who has the ability to reach the thumbturn on the inside of the lock can gain immediate access.

While some localities may allow the use of deadbolts which use a key on the inside as well, that can be a problem. You could lock yourself in during an emergency.
Medeco offers you the control over your security. With a removable thumbturn on the Maxum Deadbolt, you have the option of keeping it in the lock, or taking it out when you feel most vulnerable. Like when you’re on vacation.

For a video comparison of other security tests such as drilling, hammering, pulling and kicking; see the other videos in this series.

The Medeco® Maxum deadbolt exceeds Grade 1 ANSI/BHMA A156.36 standard for auxilary locks. Solid brass, free turning collar and 1/4 inch diameter mounting bolts resist wrenching, prying and hammering attacks. One inch throw hardened steel bolt resists sawing and crowbar attacks.

Hardened steel inserts and rotating pins provide drill and pick resistance in accordance with UL437 standard for safetly for key locks. The Medeco3 design offers a utility patent that provides protection against unauthorized key duplication.

The Maxum deadbolt can be ordered with a variety of different cylinder technologies.

The McFroyo says:

just break the entire window and jump in

THRILLHO says:

I don’t know why but I thought it was really funny to watch the burglar smashing the window while the pitchman just carried on like nothing was happening

N.45 says:

Lol the theif could just break the rest of the window and climb through.

Warren Gaul says:

1) The glass in a door is laminated safety glass – What yoiu showed is not possible.
2) Good thieves never use the front door.
3 In Canada taking away the thumb latch or a double keyed deadbolt is illegal and kills people in fires.
4) Add Blocking to the studs each side of the door opening. (Building Code.)
5) Add multi- point dead bolt locks so the door and jamb are locked together in three places.

Jay H says:

Great idea.

wannawatchu66 says:

Well, judging by this comment board, it sounds to me like no matter who comes along with whatever good idea, some armchair quarterback’ll just sit and poke holes in it and wring their hands and come up with ten ways why it won’t work…all the while *not* coming up with anything better.

rallock67 says:

Double cylinder deadbolts against life safety & fire codes for residential units in many areas and cities. A better option is lamented glass, like a car’s windshield, that is harder to break in.
Which is preferred, someone breaking in or dying at your front door in a fire because in your panicked state you can’t find the key

kiadodd218 says:

so after theyve smashed the window in the door leaving a big hole they could just climb through, they would try unlock from the inside and just give up? I think you underestimate the IQ of most criminals

Mister Explicit says:

Well, at least the ad is skippable.

a says:

A lock only keeps an honest person out, if someone wants in, they will find a way.

Sikes Pico says:

Love the narrator

Mole says:

or you can keep key in the hole…

The Monk Legend says:

Th knob is still a fckin key dipshits

Jim Kirk says:

n20 resistant?

Stephen Heiden says:

fucking retarded, why not just use a key?

Colin Lebold says:

seriously, the burglar could just reach down literally half a foot, and get the actual lock to the door!

Gigaton says:

didn’t you think he could just break the entire window then climb in there… like seriously if they cant unlock it they would just go through the window

housewars1 says:

why would the guy smash open the window and still try to open the door?

Rizwan Khan says:

I just came to see the window smashing

KINGsizeWINNER says:

Someone clarify something:

If you remove the key that’s on the inside like they did to prevent a burglary, and you somehow lose it, doesn’t that make exiting the building during an emergency impossible, and therefore a safety hazzard?

Eszra says:

This I like! My Mother has always been scared of glass on a front door because of things like whats shown in the video. Very smart and I’m so looking in to this!

LonelyNineSword says:

oh picky people, if you expect this invention solve all your problems once and for all, you are failing home-defense anyway.

SOSLOCKSMITHNYCITY says:

Impressive video. Medeco Maxum deadbolt are # 1 recommendation to our clients. Back by High Security, Durability. For Sales and Installation in NYC http://www.soslocksmith.com/

RandomUser043 says:

Sweet.  Someone’s forcibly trying to enter my home.  Better use 00buck though, my normal slug/sabot loads would cause too much damage to the wall behind.

Mr.ActionGal101 says:

yes!

Cangel Tibon says:

Isn’t that the same as losing a key? In fact worst since you can have you key on a chain or on a hook far enough out of reach of the criminal but close enough for you to escape…

Dubstep boy says:

They can go through the door like hello we don’t need that we need protective door like bullet proof

SlosherAV says:

So here’s the thing…..if someone wants to go into a house, and are willing to use a hammer to ruthlessly smash you window in, why would they give up after they can’t open the lock? They wouldn’t…they would just break the fucking door down or go through a window. P.S. Nice advertising campaign losers….

Bose-Einstein says:

If someone wants in, nothing but bars on all the windows will stop them. Even then, if your house looks rich they might take the time to cut through said bars.

Dillan Timpany says:

I notice your product is just a knob with a key in it. Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper to just get another key to leave in the lock?
