Abus 37/80 Granit Padlock and 14KS Security Chain

This is a quick table-top review of my bike lock setup, and Abus 37/80 Granit padlock paired with an 14KS 2-foot security chain!

Forensource says:

The Pewag chain might be a better value-it is a tougher chain. The lock is great.

Sauce more says:

Aside from the length of the chain I like this solution. The only thing I would change if I could afford it is a bolt cutter proof chain, which this chain is not.

Protector Chain http://lockitt.com/Lockitt/product/CHPS1620.html and Pewag 12mm High Security Square Link chains are bolt cutter proof.

If you’ve already spent this much on your locking solution, you might want to think about the Abloy PL362, which is equally strong, and I believe has not been picked yet, unlike this lock.

VicariousReality7 says:

Wait a minute… i thought 14KS was a round chain

this lock costs more than my bike

You Toober says:

What you have, in my opinion, is NOT “overkill”. It’s smart, intelligent and someone who wants to keep their property.

“Overkill” would be having a sniper or some weapons expert on a roof or somewhere watching over your bike. I don’t know about you, but i know the feeling of having a vehicle being taken from you. Going to an empty spot where you once had your vehicle parked. Do/Buy what you can to protect yours.

While a professional can most likely get through just about anything (given enough time and the right tools), you want a very good deterrent or at least something that would take a looong time for criminal(s) to defeat.

Mel Magallon says:

Damn! That’s a beastly padlock. Definitely would consider this when parking a bike outside in an urban are, but since I carry my bikes inside the house, I couldn’t really justify this. Would go great with an Almax 19mm. I have a kryptonite 4 mini chain and I barely use it as is.

Lee L says:

I need this padlock for my girlfriends chastity belt

DaveMcIroy says:

How heavy is it combined?
I have a 37/55 and a 10KS 110cm and it weights already 2,7kg.

David Dalton says:

Is that chain long enough to lock the bike frame and front tire at the same time?

Frogboyattacks says:

i have loved locks since i was a small child… big shiny steel bank vaults are cool too

ganzonomy says:

I’d almost want that lock just because I’m a lock nerd too.

zach Oblak says:

Id cut the bike apart n take the lock lol

Olivier Cauffopé says:

very nice padlock
