the backset is adjustable .. you have throw the bolt into locked position … then push those little buttons on the bottom of the bolt housing and slide the bolt out the backside ( in a motion away from the faceplate ) …. be aware of 2 medium ball bearings inside) then you move the black piece one step towards the faceplate into the closest spot .. (also, the ring clip holding the black piece into place spins around the bolt making way for you to move the black piece closer ) …. making it 2 3/8 … then slide the bolt back in until the little button on the bottom clicks back into it’s little hole on the bottom of the bolt housing and viola .. now the bolt housing will fit into the hole and will unlock and lock with the hole needed for the tailpieces in the center … hope this helps ….
